Aiming at international markets, the Finnish circular economy technology company Europress Group Oy will be exhibiting its waste and recycling balers and compactors at the Waste Expo 2017 trade show that is to be held in New Orleans on May 8-11. Europress products will challenge the US waste management market to try something new, as devices utilizing smart technology are not yet commonly used in the US.
Smart technology and a network connection enable the devices manufactured by Europress to communicate with users, maintenance staff, and waste and material haulers. Balers can indicate when a bale is ready for extraction and a compactor can activate an indicator light, for example, to show where the problem is if the device fails to start. The Europress remote helpdesk can establish a connection to every device connected to the network, and any issues can often be resolved with a few button presses. Time, costs, and transportation emissions are saved when a maintenance technician does not have to drive to the site.
“Failed activation can be caused by a problem with one of the sensors that monitor safety, for example. The emergency stop button may be engaged or the filling hatch may not be fully closed. When a customer calls the remote helpdesk, the customer service representative immediately sees the situation on the display and can then instruct the customer to release the button or close the hatch,” says Timo Huhtala, Executive Vice President in charge of the development of smart technology.
Smart balers and compactors also provide environmental and financial savings in many other ways.
“Sorting and recycling will become more common when it is made to be easier with efficient and progressive devices. Smart technology ensures that our equipment lasts longer and suffers from fewer malfunctions. CO2 emissions and transportation costs are reduced considerably thanks to the smart technology automatic full control and emptying calls sent by email,” says Business Development Director Marko Aaltio.
Smart technology is included in all products manufactured by Europress, among which Balex balers and detachable compactors, in particular, are marketed for export. At the Waste Expo trade show, Europress will be looking for new partners to open up product distribution in the vast US market.
Europress Group Oy is a well-known manufacturer of waste compactors and balers and the largest company of its kind in the Nordic countries. In addition to Finland, the company with a staff of some 160 people has also operated in the neighboring countries for the past two decades and has now set its sights on wider expansion to international markets.
The Waste Expo trade show is among the largest annual US waste management and recycling events, with more than 600 exhibitors and some 13,000 visitors attending the event last year. Europress will showcase its products at Waste Expo booth no. 1701.
